Ex-Cop Accused of Snooping on Police Systems and Ordering Dodgy Stop on Member of the Public
A former police officer is in hot water over explosive claims he misused police databases and attempted to get a member of the public pulled over — despite there being no official reason to do so.
Former PC Hargrave is set to face a misconduct hearing after being accused of breaching several key Standards of Professional Behaviour, including Confidentiality, Orders and Instructions, Honesty and Integrity, and Discreditable Conduct.
Between 26 July 2021 and 21 February 2023, it’s alleged Hargrave repeatedly accessed police systems and viewed information without a legitimate policing purpose.
Then, on 20 August 2023, Hargrave is said to have tasked another officer with stopping a member of the public known to him, claiming they were drink driving — despite no police intelligence backing up the claim.
Although Hargrave is no longer serving, the misconduct panel has the power to recommend his name be added to the College of Policing’s barred list — meaning he could be permanently banned from working in policing ever again.
A public misconduct hearing will now determine the outcome.
