Sanction: Resigned

Former PC Singh drove to work when he was well over the drink-drive limit.

In doing so he put the public, his colleagues and himself in danger. Former PC Singh claimed that he had not drunk alcohol until he had arrived at work. However, he was found guilty, following a not guilty plea, of driving after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in his breath exceeded the prescribed limit.

He has been sentenced accordingly, the most serious part of the sentence being a two-year disqualification from driving.

A police officer behaving in this way, that is firstly in drinking and driving and being unfit for duty, and secondly in being convicted of and sentenced for the relevant criminal offence, discredits the police service and undermines confidence in it.
