On 2 August 2022, an Accelerated Misconduct Hearing was held at Ormskirk Police Station in respect of Former Officer 5345 Sam Rigby.

The alleged breach of the Standards of Professional Behaviour was as follows:

Former Officer 5345 Rigby breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour set out in Schedule 2 to the Police (Conduct) Regulations 2020 by selecting items from a Sainsbury store at Piccadilly Station in Manchester, placed the items in his coat pocket and then left the store having made no attempt to pay for any of the items.

The Chair found the conduct breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour, namely Honesty and Integrity and Discreditable Conduct, and amounted to Gross Misconduct. Former Officer Rigby would have been dismissed had he still been a serving police officer and he will now be included on the barred list.
