PC Poppy Castle And PC Joseph Wiley Named Ahead Of Hearing Over Alleged Abuse About Detainee’s Neurodiversity

PC Poppy Castle and PC Joseph Wiley will face a public misconduct hearing over allegations that derogatory and discriminatory remarks were made about a neurodivergent detainee and their son after an officer’s body-worn camera was switched off.

Two Nottinghamshire Police officers have been publicly named following representations from Misconduct999 concerning applications for anonymity and reporting restrictions.

PC 1206 Poppy Castle and PC 1731 Joseph Wiley are due to appear before a misconduct panel at Nottinghamshire Police Headquarters from Monday 21 to Wednesday 23 September 2026.

PC Wiley had previously been referred to only as “Officer A”.

Nottinghamshire Police has now confirmed that he will be named during the proceedings and that PC Castle will not be granted anonymity.

The chair’s written documents expressly recorded that an email containing media representations had been received from Misconduct999.

Misconduct999 opposed the application to conceal PC Wiley’s identity, arguing that the supporting information did not adequately explain why anonymity was necessary or why less restrictive measures could not address the concerns raised.

Misconduct999 adopted a neutral position on PC Castle’s application

It is not known whether any other media organisation submitted representations.

Body-worn camera allegedly switched off

The hearing concerns the officers’ response to a reported domestic incident at an address in Nottinghamshire on 25 September 2023.

A person identified as Person A was arrested and taken into custody.

It is alleged that PC Castle asked PC Wiley to switch off his body-worn camera so that derogatory comments made about Person A would not be recorded.

PC Castle is accused of making derogatory remarks about Person A and their son, Person B, and of using discriminatory or abusive language concerning their vulnerabilities or neurodiversity.

Her alleged conduct is also said to have lacked fairness and impartiality and to have undermined public confidence in policing.

PC Wiley is accused of lacking integrity by turning off his body-worn camera.

He is also alleged to have failed to challenge comments made by PC Castle and to have made disrespectful or abusive remarks of his own about Person A, Person B and police colleagues.

The allegations engage the Standards of Professional Behaviour relating to integrity; authority, respect and courtesy; equality and diversity; and discreditable conduct.
