The Metropolitan Police Service has announced the dismissal of PC Bright Shine-Sedziafa, following a misconduct hearing that concluded he engaged in gross misconduct in connection with serious breaches of duty and professional standards.
PC Shine-Sedziafa faced allegations concerning the unauthorized transportation of a minor, referred to as Child B, to the UK. The officer facilitated Child B’s travel to her mother, Mrs. C, without obtaining appropriate written consent and with disregard for the child’s best interests. The panel heard that Mrs. C, who was present in the UK only temporarily, was subject to an electronic tag and awaiting extradition to the United States on serious fraud charges.
After reviewing the evidence, the panel determined that PC Shine-Sedziafa acted deliberately and dishonestly, making the conscious decision to assist in Child B’s travel under inappropriate circumstances. The misconduct involved repeated acts of dishonesty, including misleading actions before the panel itself.
Aggravating factors in the case included the officer’s failure to show remorse or acknowledge the risks to Child B, as well as the occurrence of these actions within six months of his probationary appointment to the police force. His conduct was found to be in violation of multiple professional standards and ethical expectations.
As a result, PC Shine-Sedziafa has been dismissed with immediate effect. His name will be placed on the College of Policing’s barred list, preventing any future employment within law enforcement.
