A trial date has been scheduled for Exeter Police officer PC Leonard Fogg, 27, who has been charged with assault by beating following an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). The charge, recommended by the Crown Prosecution Service, stems from an incident that occurred on March 22, 2024.
The allegations involve an incident during the arrest of a woman in Basildon, where PC Fogg, along with another officer, was involved in a struggle while attempting to handcuff her. It is claimed that excessive force was used during the arrest, including a knee strike, the application of PAVA spray, and multiple punches to her back.
During a hearing at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on October 14, 2024, PC Fogg pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court has set the trial date for July 1, 2025.
PC Fogg has been released on bail pending the trial.
