An Essex Police officer, PC Thomas White, aged 30, has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and is set to appear before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 21 October 2024.
The charges follow an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), launched after a conduct referral from Essex Police. The referral alleged that PC White assaulted a 14-year-old girl, including allegations of his hand around the child’s throat.
The IOPC’s probe into the incident concluded with sufficient evidence to bring formal charges against the officer. Essex Police have cooperated fully with the investigation.
PC White is currently suspended from duty pending the outcome of the legal proceedings.
