PC Gavin Smith     –     West Yorkshire Police,

It is alleged that on multiple occasions between 1st December 2021 and 12th December 2021 PC Smith was on duty and the driver of a police vehicle. He breached the terms of his basic driving permit by activating blue lights when prohibited to do so.

It is alleged that on 7th January 2022, PC Smith was expressly told that his driving authority was suspended and that he was not permitted to drive any vehicle on behalf of West Yorkshire Police.

On 8th February 2022, he was on duty when he seized a motor vehicle for no insurance.

PC Smith proceeded to drive the vehicle in question towards a Police Station, but his supervisor contacted him whilst en-route and told him to stop driving as he was not permitted to do so.

On 2nd December 2021, PC Smith was on duty and driving a marked police vehicle when he was found to be traveling above the speed limit.

It is alleged PC Smith was subsequently sent a notice of impending prosecution regarding this offence and requested to respond with details of the circumstances of the incident.

On 7th January 2022, PC Smith advised Bradford Secretariat that having checked available records, the offence occurred whilst he was in the process of stopping a vehicle which had been driven erratically and gone through a red light moments earlier.

As a result of this response, the speeding ticket was cancelled as it was considered that PC Smith had a lawful exemption at the time of the offence.

The information which PC Smith provided to Bradford Secretariat was incorrect, and he provided this information knowing it to be untrue in order to have his speeding ticket cancelled.
